Development of a Compact Multivariable Sensor Probe for Two-Phase Detection in High Temperature PbLi–argon Vertical Columns

Liquid gas two phase flow is a common occurrence in various industrial applications. For nuclear fusion applications with Li based breeder, existence of may lead to critical issues including decreased tritium breeding ratio, generation hot spots and improper shielding. Additionally, very large density ratio liquid metal mandates relevant experiments towards development validation software tools. PbLi has gained immense focus for its advantages utilized several blanket concepts. In view above mentioned requirements, detection tool imperative environment. applications, electrical conductivity probes are most suitable terms ruggedness, fabrication ease operational simplicity. However, corrosive nature high temperature put severe demands on insulation, foremost requirement schemes. this study, multivariable probe measurement schemes developed using Al2O3 coating as insulation. Developed validated PbLi/Ar vertical column bulk upto 400 degC time averaged void fraction 0.95 covering regimes from dispersed bubbly box loss coolant accident. provides reliability excellent temporal resolution individual bubble through principle alongwith simultaneous trends. Present paper details about sensor fabrication, calibration, test facility, estimations, frequency residence estimations observations preliminary experimental investigations.
